Keeping the POOP OUT of your Diapers!
So, when I went cloth, I didn't do it because I love the environment.
I mean I do, who doesn't right?
I didn't do it because there are toxic chemicals in disposable diapers.
Although there are.
I didn't do it because I like doing the laundry.
Because I don't, who does.
I did it because I like shopping and I think diapers are cute.
You know what's not cute?
Poop. Baby poop or otherwise, it's disgusting.
So, naturally I wanted to figure out how to make sure these poop catchers never actually had any poop in them <impossible>.
So I made it my mission to make sure they never stained.
So far so good.
Whoever gets these diapers next is going to be one lucky mama because they look BRAND new (and many of them have been through two kids).
I have tried the disposable liners and diaper sprayers.
Honestly... they involve too much poop touching for me.
I wanted a way to never touch poop and to make sure it NEVER stained the beautiful results of my shopping addiction.
So I took a look at some PRICEY diapers.
The ones that you would NEVER find on Zulily or Ecobabybuys.
You know the ones.
They cost $45+ new but you can find them for ever more because their patterns are so desired. Weird.
When I actually picked one up and felt it - I discovered the trick.
BLEACH!!!
<jk>
They were all lined with minky fabric.
Nothing.sticks.to.minky.
So... not wanting to spend my starbucks money on $50 diapers... I bought a yard of minky and cut it up. No sewing required. I made liners.
When I fold the diapers, I put the liners in place.
They repel poop. It just falls right off... no matter... the... consistency.
So there you have it.
<I only picked blue because it was the cheapest, with free shipping, from amazon>
Good luck!
I share my posts here. It's an awesome list. Check it out. Seriously.

I've never heard of minky fabric, so today, the veteran momma of two grown children learned something I can pass on to my own children. If they're ever brave enough to use cloth diapers. Thanks!
First, I was dying to come over here and tell you that your title made me laugh because the only thing I read was "Keeping the poop out" and didn't realize it was out of diapers, lol! I was dying to know WHAT you were posting about, haha.
Second, I've never heard of minky but wish you had been around when my babies were in cloth diapers!!! This is an awesome tip.
Thanks so much for linking up to "Making Your Home Sing Monday" linky party today! :)
A few years late for me! My diapers are not looking new at all. They made their way through 2 kids and now its time to get rid of them! Wished I had known this before - my diapers would have been much easier to resell (which I need to do).
We love cloth! It is so fun and SO cute.
Thanks! I thought it was a catchy name :)
Alexis consigns diapers: https://www.facebook.com/ThePamperedBum - maybe she can help?
I've never had major issues with my cloth diapers, but this I may have to try. We plan to cloth diaper baby #3 who arrives in June and this could help with those early staining issues.
Thank you for sharing with the Clever Chicks Blog Hop this week; I hope you’ll join us again!

You can definitely sell them, even in the worst condition! There is a big market for used diapers oddly enough :) try FB for some groups.
I just like having them look nice and white :)
Of course! I love your hop!
this. is. REVOLUTIONARY.
thank you thank you thank you!!!!!
Hahahaha Glad it helps! I am a little OCD about the diapers...
Great post! Have you tried this with G Diapers? I use G Diapers, and am not sure how to adapt this method to those.
I haven't tried it with them - I didn't love gs and got rid of them a while ago - but I would just cut the minky to cover the whole insert (that's about how big I cut them anyway). Good luck keeping them clean!! :)
I'm past the diaper stage but that's GENIUS. I tried cloth diapers for a short time and gave up because I couldn't stand how messy they were.
This is a fantastic tip - I love it! I am loving your blog too - I'd be thrilled if you linked up this and any other frugal projects with us at Living Well Spending Less! http://www.livingwellspendingless.com/category/thrifty-thursday
Brillant! I must do this. A trip to Joann's is in order. I'd love for you to link up with us @ Pin my post Friday. http://www.kmlogan.com
Cool idea!! I went with all cotton dipes because I'd heard horror stories about synthetics holding stink. But, if you're just using it as a liner, no worries!
Of course, you could always do EC - that's kept poop out of DD's diapers since she was about 6 months. Love it!
Thanks for the post!
Maybe that would make it so we can switch to cloth! I don't have my own washing machine and have been wanted to go cloth but since I would have to hand wash diapers constantly I've been avoiding it. But if there's no poop stuck to them all day while I save up some to go wash that might just work...
This solves that problem!
Awesome! I will check it out and add it to my thursday list!
It is fantastic! I will check it out and add it to my Friday list!
YES - that is the reason I absolutely HATE microfiber! We have ALL natural bamboo or cotton inserts. The one layer of a liner though doesn't seem to hold onto anything - stink or otherwise :)
You EC mamas are SO fantastic!! Thanks for stopping by!
I wash mine 2-3 times a week - this really has totally eliminated stains!
Brilliant! This was my one concern about cloth diapers. I really didn't like the thought of sticky, stinky poop on cloth but this changes everything! Thanks so much for sharing.
Coming to you from Family Fridays link up.
Thank you for your submission on Nourishing Treasures' Make Your Own! Monday link-up.
Check back tomorrow when the new link-up is running to see if you were one of the top 3 featured posts! :)
It really works quite well! I am a little OCD about it - I am excited the weather is nicer now too so I can sun them - to make them even whiter!

I am totally sending this post to my crunchy mama friend!! Thanks for stopping by my blog during the #UBP13!
You are one brilliant woman! I have been grudgingly buying and using disposable diaper liners for the past several months. Even if they're biodegradable, I still don't like paying for them! :) This is the perfect solution. Thanks for linking up!
My three kiddos are out of diapers now; wish you were around when I had two in diapers. Thanks for sharing. Visiting from Home Educator Mom. Thank you for linking up.
Tx for sharing this post onto the pin party, pinned!
When my daughter was using cloth diapers, I cut a microfleece shirt of mine, cream coloured, in small pieces... and used it as a poop-saver, as you did!

Genius! Am so impressed.
Thanks so much for sharing at the Friday Baby Shower - Alice x
I am going to have to try this out! :) THank you for sharing! I'm not a fan of the poop cleaning either! And find some of the flushable liners I've got a little fiddly!
Definitely pass it on! I wish I knew about it sooner :)
Brilliant? No. Obsessed with cloth diapers? Yes! :)
Thanks for hosting!
Thanks for following! I like minky because it never gets... poop looking like my fleece liners did :)
Thanks for hosting! I am obsessed with your blog :)
Definitely give it a go! They are mess free :)
We have never tried cloth diapers, but I'm trying to convince my husband to go that route this time. He asked if poop doesn't stick what about pee? Does it absorb or bead up and roll off and exit where it can? He thinks we'll have more accidents and messes to deal with. I need something that can convince a man with a sensitive nose and stomach. I don't want to be the only changing diapers in my house.
Have you noticed that the minky causes leaks? I just tried it today from fabric I already had and both times my son leaked pee all over his clothes. Any suggestions??
hmmmm - no - maybe a few times through the wash? also I cheat the fabric back a bit so it is only toward the back of the diaper, and once the diaper is on - go around all the elastic and tuck the minky in.
My husband uses it just fine, I have not had a problem with pee - but I put the minky toward the back of the diaper. I find that I have much fewer accidents/leaks/explosions with cloth (once you are adept and making sure everything is cleaned correctly and snug) - see the comment below too :) good luck!
I have a ? does the minky slip around in the diaper my baby moves a lot. and if nothing sticks does it make the poop come out of the diaper?
No it doesn't :)
I had never heard of minky. What a handy trick! I have found line drying them in the sun helps (I returned some previously poop-stained diapers to a friend poop-free after bleaching them in the sun!) but I suppose this doesn't necessarily work in the winter time ;-) Stopping by from the Pin It Party, thanks for sharing!
So you just set this in on top of everything in the diaper, not as an insert? Do you wash them with the CD's and wipes?
This was my question too. I have mostly pocket diapers where the insert goes behind the white fabric in the diaper. Are you putting just the minky on top of the built in fabric the diaper has. Also, after a poop do you still spray/clean the minky and wash with your diapers and inserts as normal? Seems like your still having to do the cleaning process just on the minky instead of the diaper.
This wasn't nearly as effective as I had hoped it would be. A small amount of poop comes off after shaking it. But even after shaking the minky for several minutes, there's still a good bit of poop residue. I still end up doing the dunk and swish method. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Or... maybe I'm too OCD about it being poop free before tossing it in the laundry. Either way, I apparently had unrealistic expectations. It's still easier to swish the poop out of the liner than out of a pocket diaper, and it does keep my diapers stain free (which is certainly a plus). I may try combining it with diaper sprayer... I just hate to spend the money on one.
I've been thinking about using minky but I understand that it is almost always made with flame retardant chemicals and dyes (like many synthetic fabrics and children's clothes.) I noticed that your handle is Organic Mama, so I'm wondering how you avoided that. Especially with having the minky touching baby's skin all the time. I'd love a reply so that it will help me make a decision. Thanks!
